BBC Refrains From Calling Torture “Torture”

It was not a crime for CIA agent Jose Rodriguez to destroy videotapes showing CIA officials torturing people, or at least it was not provably a crime, the

Justice Department announced today.

Did I say “torturing”? The Washington Post says ”

harsh interrogations

.” So do the

Guardian

and the BBC, even though the BBC describes the tapes as showing captives ”

being waterboarded

.”

With all due respect to George W. Bush—which is to say, on this issue,

none

waterboarding is torture

. Waterboarding terror suspects is torturing terror suspects. Calling it “harsh interrogation” is like calling rape “unwanted advances.” Even if nobody goes to jail for it.
