Why Is Mysterious Foreigner Rupert Murdoch Trying to Buy Our Government?

News Corporation—the globe-spanning, illegally eavesdropping entertainment-and-infotainment giant—has doubled its investment in buying a Republican Party-ruled government , Politico reports, following up a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association with another $1 million to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

What makes a company of Australian-British origins feel so entitled to influence America’s state executives and federal legislature? News Corp. moved its headquarters to America less than six years ago . Where are the nativists now?

The subject of the contributions did not come up yesterday, when News Corp. boss Rupert Murdoch appeared before Congress to testify about changing immigration laws. Instead, Democrats reportedly asked Murdoch about all the immigrant-bashing in his Fox News programming. “We are not anti-immigrant on Fox News,” Murdoch said.

Politico supplied some analysis of this response:

In fact, according to Michael Wolff, a frequent critic of Fox News and author of the Murdoch biography “The Man Who Owns the News,” the immigration issue, at times, creates tension between Murdoch and Fox News Channel President Roger Ailes.

“Rupert is an internationalist,” Wolff said. “His wife is Chinese, remember. I have actually heard Ailes say that this is one of Rupert’s issues and add, ‘because of the marital situation.’ And then scowl.”

Yes, Michael Wolff and Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch’s wife was born in China. And does anyone else in that marriage have any connection to the immigration question? Have a look at the birth certificates. When Murdoch’s biography says he was born in Melbourne, it doesn’t mean Melbourne, Florida. White skin doesn’t automatically make you American, mate. (Or is it “bloke”? I grew up speaking American.)

“As an immigrant, I chose to live in America because it is one of the freest and most vibrant nations in the world,” Murdoch testified yesterday. One of? Why the hedging? Some other countries must be more free or more vibrant, it seems. Why wouldn’t he come out and say which ones?

Why is this man, Murdoch, who spent the first 54 years of his life as a foreign subject, trying to dictate who runs America? What do we really know about Rupert Murdoch and his motives? If you wake up to a Congress controlled by the Tory Party, don’t say you weren’t warned.
