A Special Outward Kiki on the Year in Queer Movies and TV

2015 was unquestionably a big year for queer folks. The Supreme Court blessed same-sex marriage in June, and Caitlyn Jenner’s coming out moved trans issues more forcefully into the public consciousness than ever before—just to name the most obvious examples. It was also an important year on screens both large and small. Films like Tangerine and Carol demonstrated queer storytelling at its best, while Stonewall’s epic flop suggested that historical pandering may not be enough to guarantee success anymore. Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon produced innovative and powerful queer programming, and the British came through with a number of queer series that captivated regardless of on which side of the pond you watched.

In this special year-end edition of Outward Kiki, Outward’s LGBTQ podcast, we discuss all these titles and more, sharing our picks for best and worst media of the year and digging into a few themes we spied across the cohort. We also offer a resolution or two for queer art in 2016. Please note that there are a few spoilers strewn throughout.
