When Jim Obergefell’s husband John Arthur passed away from ALS in 2013, their home state of Ohio would neither honor their out-of-state marriage, nor allow Jim’s name to be listed on John’s death certificate. Thus began Jim’s quest for justice, a quest that, along with the work of countless other plantiffs, lawyers, and activists, brought us to today’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage across the United States.
