Ronald McDonald Gets a Makeover, Remains Terrifying

I know what you’re thinking: another post about McDonald’s. But this one isn’t about breakfast! Rather, Ronald McDonald is getting a makeover. McDonald’s announced that Ronald will trade in his signature red-and-yellow jumpsuit for a “more modern style” of cargo pants and a jacket. You can watch his transition in the short video below:

The makeover could represent another attempt by McDonald’s to cultivate a more upscale image, but a “modern” creepy clown is still a creepy clown, even if you do go to the trouble of dressing him like a movie-theater usher who’s about to parachute out of a plane. He hasn’t even changed his makeup!

The redesign has been in the works for two years (!?!) and officially launched the day after McDonald’s reported lackluster first-quarter earnings. Perhaps the company is hoping that the new look will help their mascot reclaim his good name, which was recently stolen by a clever Taco Bell commercial featuring real-life folks named Ronald McDonald, all of whom were better dressed and none of whom were creepy clowns.
