More than 60 percent of Afghan diplomats decide to remain abroad, a trend that has been increasing steadily, according to Omar Samad, a former ambassador to Paris.
And who can blame them? On the other hand, I bet lots of people who live in Afghanistan but don’t happen to be ambassadors with foreign postings would also like to gain the considerable advantages that might come from not living in Afghanistan. For all the humanitarian rhetoric that our past 20 years of military adventures have been cloaked it, far and away the cheapest and easiest way to help foreigners is to let them move to richer and better-governed countries.
