The Cities Leading America’s Construction Comeback

Cool chart from Statista shows which cities are leading the construction comeback so far in 2013.

There’s obviously a rough correlation here between city size and the scale of construction spending, so it’s the departures from that trend that are most interesting. That starts with the very large gap between New York and everyone else. It continues with the fact that even though Chicago is seeing a lot of construction, it’s badly underperforming relative to its size. Conversely, D.C. and the big Texas metros are overperforming.
