Uber—the company who’s app-based dispatch of car service vehicles offers a clever hack of the taxi regulatory system—has always been vulnerable to the fact that obeying the letter of the law isn’t good enough. If the purpose of rules is to stifle competition and protect incumbents, new rules can always be written. But yesterday here in DC the council did the right thing and established a regulatory framework that leaves Uber in the clear.
That’s excellent news for transportation options in the city.
