How Obama Won With Michael Dukakis’ Share of the White Vote

Here’s a striking exit poll fact. Barack Obama seems to have gotten a slightly smaller share of the white vote than Michael Dukakis got in 1988. Certainly within the margin of error. But he did much better overall, not only because the white share of the overall population is shrinking but because the GOP has become less popular with non-whites over the past quarter century.
