Amazon Going Non-Virtual

I’ve written a fair amount about the ongoing Death of Retail and the need to reconfigure retail spaces to meet the growing demand for health care services, but one possibility that hadn’t really occured to me was that Amazon would decide it wants to open physical stores.

Apparently their thinking is that a physical retail presence to showcase the Kindle could spark sales of the devices, which, in turn, will spark sales of the digital content that Amazon sees as a cash cow going forward. Upon reflection, it’s not a totally crazy idea (I guess that’s why Jeff Bezos is the CEO and I’m the blogger) and it highlights the possibility that physical retail spaces have a possible future as loss-leading showrooms.
