New Republic On The Auction Block

The Wall Street Journal reports that the owners of The New Republic are looking to sell and that The Blackstone Group is advising on the possible transaction. That seems like an unduly high-powered level of M&A advice for a publication that, to the best of my knowledge, has always been more or less a patronage operation undertaken by rich folks who want to support the journalism and have influence in DC.
