Here from the Economic Policy Institute's year-end chart pack is a great illustration of the across the board nature of the recession.

Different sectors look very different from one another, but they're all in recession. We're not seeing a transition out of some sectors and into others, with elevated unemployment happening because the transition is slow. Instead we're seeing a transition out of all sectors and into the ultra-low-productivity unemployment sector.
