Jurassic Park Simulation Lets You Do Some Early ’90s Hacking

This is what you’ll see, on loop, if you mess up.

It might seem like a normal Monday. Just the start to another week. But what you didn’t realize when your alarm went off this morning was that you were going to be called on to try to take on Dennis Nedry’s Jurassic Systems today. Time to get hacking.

Jurassic Systems, created by Tully Robinson, is a little slice of Javascript and HTML5 heaven. It simulates the hacking scene in Jurassic Park down to the “say the magic word” pop-up freakout. We can’t all switch so quickly from Samuel L. Jackson’s cool to his state of total frustration, but watching the clip from the movie and then trying your hand in the (very limited) terminal is a great way to know what Unix hacking is all about. OK, not at all, but it’s definitely fun. Those old, clicky, mechanical keyboards can make anything sound urgent and awesome.
