Is the “Pace of Innovation” Really Rapidly Increasing? A Debate.

It’s a common cliché in news stories and blog posts about science, technology, and innovation: The rate of discovery is rapidly accelerating.

But is it true? And even if the pace of scientific progress is quicker than ever, does it matter? In a debate taking place on Future Tense today through Wednesday, April 4, Daniel Sarewitz, director of Arizona State University’s Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes, will discuss these questions and more with Konstantin Kakaes, a Schwartz fellow from the New America Foundation.

Read the first entry, “Is Science Really Moving Faster Than Ever? It’s impossible to tell,” by Kakaes. Sarewitz’s response will be posted on Tuesday morning.
