Ryan Seacrest Is the Biggest Gringo in Rio

Casual.

NBC

NBC is pulling out all the stops for its Olympics coverage, and naturally that has included sending Ryan Seacrest down to Rio de Janeiro to cover the action. Seacrest has been hosting NBC’s late-night coverage of the games, and so far, he’s seemed decidedly like a fish out of water, whether interviewing Simone Manuel about her performance, chatting with Matthew McConaughey about being an Olympics superfan, or reporting in dress shoes on the beach.

When he’s not tweeting selfies with Katie Ledecky, NBC has been using Seacrest for a hilarious gambit: exploiting him for his gringo-ness. He’s learned about Brazilian culture with supermodels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, in pre-taped segments that are boggling in their absurdity.

No amount of trilling his r’s is going to make up for the image of Seacrest banging his fork and knife on the table like a kid in a summer camp dining hall.

His capoeira moves need no introduction.

He calls traditional Portuguese desserts “really fancy donuts.”

Even Ambrosio can tell that he has no idea how to look cool at the beach.

Finally, after a rousing game of soccer—sorry, futebol—Seacrest tells Ambrosio and Lima, “I think that completes a day at the beach with you guys. I cannot keep up.”

Lima speaks for all of us: “I know.”
