Marvel at the Trailer for Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, an Anthology from the Mind Behind Blade Runner

Yet another spectacular looking anthology series is on the way: Amazon has released a trailer for Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, a series of ten standalone episodes set at various points in the future, each based on a story by the prolific sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick.

The creators behind Electric Dreams had no shortage of material to draw from. Dick, whose work was the basis for Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report, published 44 novels and 121 short stories in his lifetime, often addressing social and political themes, which makes them perfect fodder for an anthology. Stories that have been adapted for the series include “Sales Pitch,” about aggressive advertising and artificial intellifnce, “The Hood Maker,” a  1984-esque story about the use of telepathy by an authoritarian regime, and “Exhibit Piece,” about virtual time-travel and madness.

“The future is still human,” the trailer announces, and it’s giving us definite Black Mirror vibes, with futuristic buildings, artificial intelligence, mind-altering “vacation” patches, dreamlike scenery, and plenty of human emotion.

The trailer also shows off the series’ star-studded cast, including Steve Buscemi, Anna Paquin, Terrence Howard, Greg Kinnear, Janelle Monáe, and Bryan Cranston, who is also among the show’s executive producers.

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams will be available to Amazon Prime members in 2018.
