Before You Go See Blade Runner 2049, Watch the Honest Trailer for the Movie That Started It All

This week, Harrison Ford will continue his streak of revisiting old franchises with Blade Runner 2049. But before you go see him reprise his role as Rick Deckard, Screen Junkies has an Honest Trailer to remind you of the original 1982 movie that started it all.

“It may not have done well at the box office,” the Honest Trailer’s narrator reminds us of the original Blade Runner, but “it broke the record for the number of film geeks insisting it’s genius.” That adoration comes in spite of the movie’s slow pace, all those close-ups of eyes, and the fact that director Ridley Scott has retooled the movie more than once. Sure, it’s not a perfect film, and its plot can basically be boiled down to “film noir with robots.” But Blade Runner’s influence can be found in countless movies and television shows that came after it, whether that’s in their stunning visuals or, as the Honest Trailer points out, “every time someone says ‘enhance’ at a screen over and over again.”
