Coldplay and Peter Buck of R.E.M. Honor Tom Petty in Portland With a Cover of “Free Fallin’”

Musicians and artists continue to mourn the loss of Tom Petty, who died on Monday at the age of 66 following a cardiac arrest. The musical tributes to Petty have also started to pour in. Coldplay opened their concert in Portland on Monday with a moment of silence for the late rock legend before launching into a cover of Petty’s best-known song, “Free Fallin’,” from his 1989 solo album Full Moon Fever.

The band was joined in their tribute by R.E.M. cofounder and guitarist Peter Buck. They also got help from the crowd, who sang along for the famous chorus.
