The Honest Trailer for The Next Generation Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek’s More Cerebral Cousin

2017 is shaping up to be a big year for Star Trek. Not only did it see the introduction of the franchise’s first TV series in 12 years, it’s also the 30th anniversary of The Next Generation. To honor that occasion, the team over at Screen Junkies gives us a supersized Honest Trailer about the beloved ’90s iteration of Trek, affectionately mocking its sillier plot twists, cheesy special effects, and its characters.

These include Cmdr. Will Riker, “the horniest first officer in the fleet”; Lt. Cmdr. Data, who drops the fact that he’s an android into conversations “like he’s your friend who just became a vegan,” and Worf, who is full of “fun facts” about what Klingons won’t do. (Worf’s other claim to fame, of course, is being continuously shut down by his crewmates, his fellow Klingons, and his romantic prospects.)

In spite of the goofier aspects, there’s a reason The Next Generation is so beloved in the franchise: For every episode where Dr. Crusher’s nana terrorizes the crew, there’s also at least one where Patrick Stewart, playing the “most British Frenchman in the galaxy,” is acting his pants off. Or at the very least, as the Honest Trailer points out, he’ll be tugging on his shirt.
