Dear Evan Hansen was the big winner at Sunday night’s Tony Awards, taking home six Tonys including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Ben Platt, Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Rachel Bay Jones, and Best Book of a Musical for first-time writer Steven Levenson. The Bette Midler revival of Hello Dolly! won four Tonys, including a Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical award for Midler, her first since she was given a special Tony “for adding lustre to the Broadway season” in 1974. No other plays or musicals got more than two awards, not even Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, which was nominated for a whopping 12 Tonys, more than any other show this year, but only won for Scenic Design and Lighting Design.

In the nonmusical division, Best Play went to Oslo, while Best Revival of a Play went to August Wilson’s Jitney. Acting awards went to Kevin Kline for Present Laughter, Laurie Metcalf for A Doll’s House, Part 2, Michael Aronov for Oslo, and Cyntha Nixon for The Little Foxes.
