James Corden Leads The Late Late Show’s Week in London With a Promise to Celebrate the City

The Late Late Show is broadcasting from London this week, and James Corden kicked things off with a solemn monologue about what it means to him to be in his hometown so soon after the terror attacks that killed seven people over the weekend. “Some people might say it’s a strange time to do a variety show from this city. I couldn’t disagree more,” said Corden, pointing out nearby landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and Central Hall Westminster, where The Late Late Show will broadcast from this week.

“I’m proud to show off [London’s] beauty, its diversity, and its stoic British determination to let nothing or anybody stand in our way,” continued Corden. “This is not a country that feels afraid. Thank you for joining us on what we hope will be a memorable week here in London. Welcome to The Late Late Show. It may be the worst weather in the world, but it’s still my favorite city.”

Corden then delivered on his promise to bring “the silliest, stupidest, most fun-packed shows” to his hometown, including a Carpool Karaoke segment that, while filmed in Los Angeles, was still as English as you could ask for as guest Ed Sheeran shoved his mouth full of Maltesers, the British equivalent of Whoppers. He and Corden also sang some of Sheeran’s biggest hits, like “Shape of You” and Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” which Sheeran wrote.
