Hasan Minhaj Tells Stephen Colbert He Was Ready to Go to “DEFCON Orange” if Trump Showed Up at the WHCD

Hasan Minhaj and Stephen Colbert are two of three comedians who have the distinction of being Daily Show veterans and hosts of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. So, as you can imagine, the two had a lot to talk about when Minhaj came on The Late Show Tuesday night. Minhaj and Colbert discussed how uncomfortable hosting the dinner is, deciding to cut jokes on the fly, and swapped horror stories from Daily Show field pieces.

There was one big difference between Minhaj’s Correspondents’ Dinner and Colbert’s: Colbert got to make fun of the president to his face, while Minhaj’s POTUS was MIA. But Minhaj told Colbert that he did have a backup plan, just in case the orange man behind the Muslim ban showed up.

“I was expecting him to burst through the double doors like a professional wrestler, with, like, Triple H behind him, and be like ‘Oh no! X-Pac is back!’ ” Minhaj joked. “I had, like, a card ready called ‘DEFCON Orange’ just in case he showed up.”

We may never know what jokes were on that card, but, judging from Minhaj’s killer WHCD performance and the team of comedians he recruited to help him write his speech, it’s a safe bet that the actual performance featured Minhaj not-so-subty calling Steve Bannon a Nazi, it would’ve been pretty great.
