The Daily Show’s Michelle Wolf Isn’t Fooled by the New Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly returned to television on Sunday night with the premiere of her new NBC show, the aptly titled Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly, where she interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin and attempted to reposition herself as the Barbara Walters of our generation. However, The Daily Show was having none of it and reminded us that Kelly’s professional reinvention doesn’t erase her long tour as as “a soldier in Fox News’ culture war.”

The segment starts off with Trevor Noah tipping his hat to Kelly for her dogged interview with Putin, but then, the ever-reliable contributor Michelle Wolf joins the desk and comes out swinging, pointing out that Kelly is the same “race-baiting puppet” who, for over a decade, shouted over her show’s guests and fought so hard to insist that certain ideas are incontrovertibly true. You know, ideas like Jesus was undeniably a white man.

The Daily Show has a storied history of going after Kelly. Jon Stewart devoted multiple monologues to poking fun at Kelly’s insistence that Santa, like Jesus, has to be white. After it was all over, Stewart called Kelly to apologize for being too mean to her, but it doesn’t seem like Noah or his staff are likely to be asking her for absolution any time soon.
