Cyndi Lauper Is Writing the Music for a Broadway Version of Working Girl

Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, and Sigourney Weaver in Working Girl

Fox

Cyndi Lauper will be writing the music for a Broadway adaptation of the 1988 Melanie Griffith movie Working Girl, the New York Times reports. By the time the play is produced, it will be the third Broadway play to feature music from pop star Lauper: She won a Tony for 2013’s Kinky Boots and wrote music for this fall’s upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants.

The original film of Working Girl was directed by Mike Nichols from a screenplay by Kevin Wade and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It starred Melanie Griffith as a secretary who fills in for her boss (Sigourney Weaver); Harrison Ford played her love interest. No word yet on casting for this version, which is still in its early stages. The play’s book is being written by New Girl writer Kim Rosenstock; Lauper’s work will begin when Rosenstock hands in her first draft. In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the original movie:
