Jennifer Lawrence Eats Her Heart Out in the Poster for Darren Aronofsky’s Upcoming Film Mother!

You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation …

Paramount

When you’re making a film called Mother!, you can’t miss the chance for a big Mother’s Day tie-in, even if things get a little gory. That’s what happened Sunday when Darren Aronofsky, who happens to be making a film called Mother!, released the first poster for his movie, in which a beatific Jennifer Lawrence finally shows America what’s in her heart. (Blood. It’s blood.) Here’s the full poster, as tweeted by Aronofsky on Sunday:

The poster is by James Jean, the artist whose cover illustrations for the comic book series Fables were so critically acclaimed they ended up in a coffee table book. As you can see from his riff on the Sacred Heart, Jean has a taste for the macabre, which makes him the perfect match for the director of Black Swan. Mother! will star Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple dealing with uninvited guests, presumably by offering them uninvited organs—but in a religious sort of way!—until they get grossed out and leave. It’s coming to theaters Oct. 13, which gives Paramount plenty of time to plan some more promotions based around the ever-resonant themes of motherhood, Catholicism, and lots of human blood.
