The Honest Trailer for Fifty Shades Darker Is Here to Remind You That the Book Is Even More Ridiculous

Critics were not kind to Fifty Shades Darker, the James Foley-directed adaptation of the second book in E.L. James’ BDSM-lite series. But the good people over at Screen Junkies, at least, recognize the film’s inherent comedic value, and it’s the star of their latest Honest Trailer, which takes aim at Dakota Johnson’s acting, that now-infamous Chronicles of Riddick poster hanging out in the background, and the fact that Jamie Dornan is wearing pants in almost all of the sex scenes. (He’s shirtless a lot, though.)

Frankly, there’s so much fodder for mockery in these movies that this Honest Trailer doesn’t even get to some of Fifty Shades Darker’s best scenes—like one in which Christian survives a helicopter crash with nothing more than an artfully shredded T-shirt, or another in which he basically uses the Force to subdue an armed attacker. (Oh, you don’t believe me?) What the Honest Trailer does do is remind us that as ridiculous as the movie is, it can never live up to a book that contains actual lines like, “My inner goddess is doing a triple axle dismount off the uneven bars” and “He has a hotline to my groin.”
