Golden Globe Nominations Are Dominated by Oscar Heavyweights La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight

Nominations for the 74th Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday morning. In the film categories, presumed Oscar front-runners La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight dominated alongside Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and Harvey Weinstein’s awards season show horse, Lion. It wouldn’t be the Globes without a few curveballs, which this year included Deadpool’s nomination for Best Picture in the Musical/Comedy category—the first time a comic-book movie has made headway in the category—and a slew of nominations for Florence Foster Jenkins and Nocturnal Animals.

Over on the TV side, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association once again proved its fondness for new series, recognizing virtually every major new 2016 premiere: Atlanta, American Crime Story, This Is Us, Westworld, Insecure, The Night Of, The Night Manager, Stranger Things, The Crown, Divorce, Goliath, and even Epix’s political comedy Graves. Billy Bob Thornton scored a Best Actor nod for his buzzless Amazon series, Goliath, and the Globes continue to be the only major awards-giving body to be in love with Mozart in the Jungle, which scored two nominations including Best Comedy Series.

Below is the full nominations list.
