In Passengers, two extremely attractive, remarkably bankable movie stars awaken aboard a luxury spaceship fitted with amenities for their comfort. Sounds like a recipe for a great vacation, right? Wrong. As film and TV are constantly reminding us, space is dangerous, and there are a lot of ways it can kill you, including but not limited to:
- Explosions: Not always realistic but always a sure way to die
- Aliens, such as the parasitic variety
- Radiation
- Sexy aliens, which are as deadly as parasitic aliens but way more fun to look at
- Being Force-choked by your boss (occupational hazard of working in space)
- Hypoxia, which is not only fatal but also gross
- Being betrayed by artificial intelligence
- Getting run over by a spaceship for no damn reason
- Letting yourself drift off away from the space station for no damn reason
In the new clip, “Lock Down,” Passengers goes with a classic: getting sucked into space. Of course, Jennifer Lawrence probably doesn’t die, thanks to the heroics of her co-star, but it’s a good reminder that when planning your vacation, you should probably just go to Florida or something, like normal people.
In a previously released clip from the movie, Lawrence takes a leisurely swim and absolutely nothing goes wrong at all. Just kidding! Did you forget already? Space is terrifying.
Passengers crashes into theaters Dec. 21.
