Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers Were Not Impressed by Trump’s Feud With Hamilton

Stephen Colbert was not impressed by Donald Trump’s weekend-long feud with Hamilton. On Monday night’s Late Show, the host took issue with the president-elect’s demand for an apology from the Broadway show’s cast—“The only president who gets to complain about the theater is Abraham Lincoln”—and laughed off his supporters’ attempt to stage a boycott. (“You can’t boycott something you can’t get!”) And he wasn’t finished there: Colbert then offered up a Hamilton-inspired response of his own, stringing together a pretty impressive rap takedown of Trump and Vice President–elect Mike Pence, donning a Trump-like wig for good measure. “He got lectured, he got hectored in his tiny little seat,” one clever verse went. “I won’t let my veep go down like that—men, to the tweets!”

Colbert wasn’t the only late-night comedian who finally had the chance to weigh-in on the controversy. Late Night’s Seth Meyers also gave it a “closer look,” recapping it all by putting things in sobering perspective: On a weekend of important meetings and decision-making, Trump dedicated a chunk of his time to venting about a Broadway show. “Don’t think you’re off the hook, ISIS,” Meyers quipped, channeling the thin-skinned president-elect. “You’ll get your tweet soon enough!”
