Here’s 0.5 Seconds of a Blond Rihanna in the Trailer for Luc Besson’s New Sci-Fi Saga

Not wild about that thing that happened earlier this week? Wish you could not only flee the country but escape this rapidly warming planet altogether and live out your Trump-free dreams in a spectacular outer space realm? Love you some Rihanna—especially when she goes blond? Then here’s the perfect end-of-day treat for you.

Fifth Element director Luc Besson has followed up 2014’s entertaining—if utterly absurdLucy with the upcoming sci-fi saga Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Based on a comic book series, the $180-million movie stars The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Dane DeHaan and model-actress Cara Delevigne as Valerian and Laureline, special government agents assigned to investigate some problems in the intergalactic Alpha. Besson has described it as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith in space” with plenty of witty romantic banter as their journey unravels, and the first teaser does indeed feature a lot of flirting and teasing glances amidst giant space creatures and breathtaking chases.

Also, there’s Rihanna, for about 0.5 seconds, looking like she came straight out of Chicago—according to Besson, she was his first choice for the “flamboyant supporting role.” Here’s hoping this movie and her performance improve upon Battleship. Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, and John Goodman also star, and the movie is set for release in July 2017.
