Aidy Bryant Got a Lap Dance From Benedict Cumberbatch and the Chicago Cubs (but She Was Too Dead to Enjoy It)

There’s no premise as evergreen as “a corpse is accidentally treated extremely disrespectfully,” and Saturday Night Live’s latest entry into Weekend at Bernie’s territory was no exception. Aidy Bryant, as an 83-year-old bride-to-be, has been dead for less than five seconds before her well-meaning friends and family strap “Bachelorette” novelty sunglasses over her glazed eyes and call in the strippers. In this case, that means Benedict Cumberbatch and Mikey Day, both Logjammin’ed-out in flannel, hard hats, and work belts.

What follows is some great physical comedy as Bryant somehow plays a convincing corpse while having her head bounced back and forth between the men’s crotches in a move they call “a fun sandwich.” Bryant, notoriously prone to cracking up at Kate McKinnon, somehow makes it through not just that bit, but keeps a straight (dead) face while Cumberbatch fills her mouth with whipped cream, tops it with a cherry, eats the cherry, and gives the line he was born to deliver: “My favorite flavor: her mouth.”

But the real cherry on top of the skit was an appearance from World Series champions Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler, and David Ross of the Chicago Cubs. In a touching tribute, perhaps, to Cubs fans who never saw their team win a series before shuffling off their mortal coil, Rizzo, Fowler, and Ross treated Aidy Bryant’s character’s corpse to a triple-play lap dance to remember. Unfortunately, brain activity stops about 40 seconds after the heart stops pumping, so Bryant’s character was undoubtedly completely incapable of forming a new memory of a single thrust or shimmy, much less recalling it in the future. Let’s go Cubbies!
