Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ sequel is still about three years away, but he’s already picked out a title. This will come as a surprise to exactly no one who’s read the the book, but the film will be called … Resurrection. Huh.

Gibson confirmed the project while on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, a great setting for the news since Colbert, a devout Catholic, had some smart questions about how Gibson plans to turn what is essentially a three-day waiting period into a compelling film. Would there be any action? Would Thomas, of Doubting fame, be the antagonist? But Gibson played things close to the vest (or the beard, in this case), refusing to give much detail beyond that the film would explore events happening around the resurrection itself and that the villains might be “in another realm.”

OK, cool, I guess. And it’s promising that Gibson is teaming up again with Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace. But that title leaves much to be desired. It’s not that Resurrection is a bad name for the movie—it’s just completely lacking in imagination. Why not Passion of the Christ: 2 Holy 2 Risen? The Roman Empire Strikes Back? Work with us, Mel.
