The Incredibles 2 Is Coming Sooner Than We Thought

It’s on its way!

Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

It took a decade for Pixar to announce that one of their most sequel-worthy movies was, in fact, finally getting a sequel. Now, the wait for The Incredibles 2 just got a little bit shorter with the announcement of a new, earlier release date. Disney revealed today that two major upcoming Pixar sequels are swapping dates: The Incredibles 2 is moving up to June 2018, while Toy Story 4 has been pushed back to June 2019. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the switch was made “thanks to an accelerated production schedule for Incredibles 2.”

Pixar has made a number of sequels lately, including Cars 2 (Cars 3 is slated for for next year), Monsters University, and Finding Dory, to varying degrees of critical success—but unlike those other films, The Incredibles has always seemed especially ripe for a sequel considering its superhero premise. Add in Brad Bird, who won his first Oscar for the original Incredibles, returning to direct the new movie, and this new release date can’t arrive soon enough. We’ll have our super suits ready when it finally does.
