Approximately 200 people booed and walked out of Amy Schumer’s show in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday after the comedian insulted Donald Trump, calling him “an orange, sexually assaulting, fake college–starting monster.” On Tuesday, Schumer used her Madison Square Garden show as a chance to respond to critics, reading a blistering open letter to those who objected to her comments.
“Dearest Tampa,” Schumer began. “I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now. How could I think it was okay to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”
Schumer went on to promise that she would go to “rehab” to better please everyone, “both the rich, entitled, white people who are gonna vote for [Trump] and the very poor people who’ve been tricked into it.” She concluded, “I look forward to putting this all behind us in a couple weeks when Hillary Clinton is our motherf—ing president!”
Schumer, who has been a victim of sexual assault and an advocate for gun control, addressed both subjects at the Tampa show as part of her anti-Trump remarks, according to the Tampa Bay Times. She also invited a Trump supporter to come up onstage to explain why he would vote for the Republican nominee and asked security to remove anyone booing.
