Watch Saturday Night Live Abandon Its VP Debate Sketch to Address the Trump Pussy-Grabbing Fiasco

Our condolences to the Saturday Night Live writers, set designers, makeup artists, and cast members who sweated over a detailed vice presidential debate skit before Donald Trump pulled the rug out from under everyone with his, let’s say, unexpected comments on, and there’s no other way to say this, grabbing women by the pussy. Maybe Beck Bennett had an amazing Mike Pence impression. Maybe Mikey Day would have nailed Tim Kaine to the wall with a single well-chosen line. The world will never know, because SNL did the only thing it could and cut away from the sketch to have Cecily Strong interview Donald Trump about the latest heretofore unimaginable developments.

Alec Baldwin’s Trump was great last week but better this time; he must have spent the whole week in front of a mirror practicing grotesque facial expressions. His awkward attempt to “apple-a-gize” before reducing Strong to shivers with a “Bop-It” inspired description of his pussy-grabbing technique is spot on. (There’s a sentence no one ever expected to have to write about a major party nominee.) And Kate McKinnon’s Hillary was, as always, an absolute delight, mourning a “very sad day for our country and for all women … minus one,” between swigs of champagne.

The bad news is there are still four episodes of Saturday Night before Election Day. Who knows what unspeakable horrors the Republican nominee will throw their way minutes before airtime before he limps off the world stage? These may be stressful days for the nation and the SNL staff, but for Manhattan cocaine dealers, surge pricing is definitely in effect.
