“Jolene” has been covered by the likes of Olivia Newton-John, Miley Cyrus, and the White Stripes—but even after almost 40 years, nobody can sing it like Dolly Parton. Parton collaborated with a cappella quintet Pentatonix for a sparkling rearrangement of her country classic. (Parton, of course, sang lead.) The 70-year-old singer always sounds amazing, but the song gets a new twist with Pentatonix’s harmonies and rhythms to back her up.
Pentatonix posted the video to their YouTube channel on Friday, and it accumulated more than 7 million views over the weekend. The Grammy-winning group called the experience “a dream come true,” while Parton called the experience “pure magic.” I have to agree.
