Watch Bill Hader and Fred Armisen Perform as Their Talking Heads Parody Band, Test Pattern

This season on IFC’s Documentary Now!, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader will parody the great 1984 Talking Heads concert movie, Stop Making Sense. But to send up the Talking Heads, you first need your own Talking Heads–like band, and so, Test Pattern was born. The rock group made its television debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday, with Fred Armisen leading the performance in a David Byrne–style oversized suit.

A smirking Meyers introduced the band as an “iconic alt-rock band from Connecticut via the Lower East Side” before they launched into “Art + Student = Poor.” In addition to Armisen on vocals and Hader on electric guitar, the band includes Jeremy Gara, of Arcade Fire, on drums.

This isn’t the first time Armisen and Hader have formed an entire band for their show—their commitment to the bit was made evident last season, when they released a real album for their fake soft-rock ’70s band, Blue Jean Committee.

Documentary Now! premieres Wednesday at 10 p.m. on IFC.
