When it comes to the upcoming HBO comedy Divorce, the main source of intrigue for over a year has been Sarah Jessica Parker’s return to TV. In June, the network dropped a teaser trailer that primarily highlighted the Sex and the City star’s presence, and in the months since, little buzz has been generated beyond it.
The full Divorce trailer, which HBO released Friday, provides a better indication of the show’s attributes beyond its main attraction. The new footage features the inviting but scathing wit that creator Sharon Horgan has showcased on her hit Amazon series Catastrophe and takes its time introducing the chemistry between Parker and her co-lead, Thomas Haden Church. Add to that a dynamic supporting cast (including Molly Shannon, Tracy Letts, and Mad Men alum Talia Balsam), and Divorce might just be the comeback vehicle HBO wants it to be.
Divorce premieres Oct. 9 on HBO.
