This Supercut Proves Gene Wilder Was at His Funniest When Doing Nothing at All

Among the many to pay tribute to the great Gene Wilder on social media over the past few days was director Edgar Wright, who pointed out one of the comedy genius’ greatest talents: doing nothing at all.

A supercut by Rishi Kaneria at Raging Cinema of Wilder’s best comedic pauses proves Wright’s point, linking Wilder’s brilliant entrance in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to his marvelous sheep scene in Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex to his many, many Mel Brooks collaborations. It all goes to show that the difference between getting a chuckle and causing an uproarious laugh is sometimes just a matter of patience.
