In June, we got our first look at Terrence Malick’s decades-in-the-making documentary, Voyage of Time, an ambitious project that spans from the beginnings of the universe to the emergence of life on earth to humankind’s impact. Now, a new trailer shows even more spectacular footage from Malick’s masterpiece as well as the soothing tones of Cate Blanchett, promising “a journey from the birth of the stars through the origin of humanity.”
Voyage of Time will be released in two formats: as a 40-minute IMAX presentation narrated by Brad Pitt, and as Life’s Journey, the feature-length edition with Blanchett as narrator. Blanchett, who Malick has previously worked with on Knight of Cups, certainly has the pipes to do the director’s incredible imagery justice (even if her voice-over does give us Lord of the Rings flashbacks). The documentary will also be a reunion for Malick and his Days of Heaven collaborator Ennio Morricone, who provides the film’s score.
The IMAX version of Voyage of Time will be released on Oct. 7. Life’s Journey will premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
