At her concert at Staples Center in Los Angeles Saturday night, Adele confirmed she’d been offered the Super Bowl halftime show but turned it down, according to Variety. Rumors that the singer would perform at the next Super Bowl hit the news Monday, when the Sun reported that the Super Bowl organizers were trying to book her. Adele told the crowd her version of the story in response to yet another rumor passed her way by a friend. Her friend had heard that she was pregnant and planned to announce her pregnancy during the Super Bowl halftime show, which, to be fair, is pretty elaborate for a celebrity rumor. According to Adele, however, there are two main problems with this story: She is not pregnant and will not be performing at the Super Bowl:
They heard that I was going to announce it at the Super Bowl. So first of all, I’d like to tell you I’m not doing the Super Bowl. Well, come on. I mean, I mean, come on. That show is not about music. And I don’t really, I don’t dance or anything like that. So they were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I’m sorry. But maybe next time, when I do my next album, because I’m going to do a dance album next time. So maybe I’ll do it then. But apparently someone said I was going to announce it at the Super Bowl—I was like, “I was seven months pregnant when people found out I was pregnant last time—I’m hardly going to announce it at the Super Bowl, am I?” Fucking stupid rumors. People are so fucking stupid, I’ll tell you. Including my friend, I’ll tell you that. But anyway, I just wanted to clear that up before that rumor got any further, that I was pregnant.
Adele went on to praise the (well-stocked) cheese department at Bristol Farms before inviting two fans up on stage to FaceTime with a third friend who’d been unable to attend the concert. Via Billboard, watch a fan’s video of her complete comments below:
