Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard Are Undercover Assassins in the Seductive Trailer for Allied

With the technically innovative The Walk behind him, Robert Zemeckis is now making a return to the prestige period piece. His new film, Allied, is a charged romantic thriller placed against the backdrop of World War II—and it’s already primed for a competitive awards campaign, with a pair of Oscar-winning stars attached in Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard and an ideal release date of Nov. 23 locked in.

Beginning in 1942, Allied tells the story of Max Vatan (Pitt), an intelligence officer who meets and charms Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard), a French Resistance fighter, on a perilous North African mission. Their relationship is tested upon their reunion in London, as they contend with the extreme pressures of World War II and plan a covert assassination attempt. TV favorites Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Jared Harris (Mad Men), and Matthew Goode (The Good Wife) round out the production in key supporting roles. And the film, shot on location in London as well as in the Canary Islands, appears to boast the visual finesse that’s been characteristic of Zemeckis’ recent films—that, along with its seductive premise and historical intrigue, could render Allied a major Oscar player come winter.
