The One Mississippi Trailer Promises a Melancholy Adaptation of Tig Notaro’s Stand-Up

Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi pilot debuted on Amazon Prime last year to widespread acclaim. Featuring complex family dynamics, melancholy comedy, and some gorgeous direction from filmmaker Nicole Holofcener, the 30-minute episode generated enough interest to merit a quick series pickup from Amazon in December. The 10-episode first season is now slated to premiere on the streaming service in its entirety on Sept. 9.

One Mississippi, co-written by Notaro and Juno scribe Diablo Cody, is loaded with material that should be familiar to fans of Notaro’s stand-up. The series begins with Tig (Notaro) relocating from Los Angeles to her hometown in Mississippi after her mother’s death, reuniting with her estranged family, and poignantly confronting her past and her grief in the process. One Mississippi will be conceived in the spirit of Notaro’s infamously dry sense of humor, with Louis C.K.—whose autobiographical sensibility is similarly rendered on Louie—attached as an executive producer. In other words, fans of Notaro (and autobiographical comedy in general) should find plenty to like here.
