The Pfeffermans Try to Be Their Best Selves in the Transparent Season 3 Trailer

It was Amazon day at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Sunday, and the online studio released trailers for its upcoming fall shows. Perhaps none is more anticipated than the third season of Transparent, Jill Soloway’s dramedy about a wealthy Los Angeles family who experiences a parent’s transition. The first season won five Emmys, the second has 10 nominations (the 2016 Emmy awards will take place in September), and now we get our first look at the third season.

Jeffrey Tambor’s character Maura Pfefferman is moving further into her life as a woman, asking her children to call her “mom” instead of the neologism “moppa” they settled on earlier, and having plastic surgery to change her face; her ex-wife is less than thrilled with these developments. Meanwhile, it looks like the Pfefferman children are continuing in their established pattern of alternating between self-absorption and transcendence. The trailer plays up the transcendence a bit much, but the first two seasons showed this is a tightrope act Soloway and the cast can pull off. Transparent’s third season will be released on Sept. 23, five days after the Emmys.
