Wilco Announces New Album Schmilko, Drops Two New Songs

Days after marking the one-year anniversary of their acclaimed surprise album Star Wars with the new song “Locator,” Wilco has announced their next project. The Chicago-based band has recorded a new album—titled Schmilko and featuring “Locator” in addition to 11 other original tracks—that will drop via dBpm Records on Sept. 9, according to Pitchfork.

“I think this record is ‘joyously negative,’ ” Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy said. “It’s sad in a lot of ways but not in any that reach a conclusion of doom or hopelessness. I just had a lot of fun being sour about the things that upset me.”

The band also indicated that the record—which is mostly acoustic—will at least partially reflect public attitudes toward Wilco, exploring identity and self-image. Fans can currently sample Schmilko by checking out “Locator” or “If I Ever Was a Child,” another new song that Wilco has released in advance of the album’s debut.

Schmilko is available for preorder at WilcoWorld.net.
