July 9 will mark the last performance of Hamilton with the original Broadway leads, as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Phillipa Soo all step away from the production. A few weeks ago it was announced that Miranda’s alternate, Javier Muñoz, will be taking over the title role, but we now have our Aaron Burr and Eliza Hamilton: Twice–Tony-nominated actor Brandon Victor Dixon, currently starring in Shuffle Along on Broadway, will be stepping into Odom’s shoes, while Lexi Lawson will be taking over from Soo as the middle Schuyler sister.

Dixon is a seasoned Broadway player, having starred in the original runs of The Color Purple (his first Tony nod), Motown: The Musical, and currently, Shuffle Along. (His other Tony nod: He lost this year to Odom, who won for the very part Dixon will now be performing.) Lawson, meanwhile, is no stranger to Miranda’s musicals; she previously played Vanessa in the national tour of In The Heights. Hamilton will also mark the Broadway debut of Michael Luwoye, who will perform as Alexander Hamilton once a week as Muñoz’s alternate.

Most of the rest of the cast, including Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Christopher Jackson, will remain with the production. Dixon will join the cast sometime in August on a date to be announced (Sydney James Harcourt is currently the understudy for Burr), while the other new cast members will begin performances July 11.
