Richard Linklater’s body of work has included huge blockbusters, a trilogy that spans almost two decades, and even animated movies, but it’s Linklater himself who is the subject of Richard Linklater: Dream Is Destiny. The documentary, which is directed by Karen Bernstein and Louis Black, premiered at Sundance earlier this year to positive reviews and covers the life and work of the man behind Everybody Wants Some!! and Boyhood.

The trailer sees Linklater reflecting on his early career, including the time he spent making cult classics Slacker and Dazed and Confused; there’s even a decades-old clip of an interview he gave with Black, an Austin, Texas–based journalist. Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy, Matthew McConaughey, and other Linklater collaborators from over the years also lend their perspectives for this look at the auteur.

Dream Is Destiny will be released Aug. 5 in theaters and on demand.
