Jessica Williams’ Final Daily Show Segment Was Williams at Her Incredulous, Acerbic Best

After one last (literal) mic drop, a teary J. Willy says goodbye.

Last night was Jessica Williams’ final episode of The Daily Show, and she spent her last segment doing what she does best: dropping mics (literally). To investigate what could possibly motivate Bernie-or-bust voters, Williams sat down with former Sanders supporters to question why they’re voting for Donald Trump, a man whose platform is the opposite of Sanders’ in almost every conceivable way.

It’s Williams at her finest, incredulous and unafraid to call out her subject’s inanity. When one voter says of Trump, “He’s a bigot and a racist. However—” Williams cuts her off, noting, “You don’t have to continue with however. Where are you going to go with that?” She also forces the group to examine what exactly Trump and Sanders have in common, resulting in a comically short list:

1. Both don’t have hair.
2. Both old.
3. Both want to be president.

And that’s it!

Finally, an emotional Trevor Noah bid Williams farewell with a video tribute that he acknowledged could never adequately encompass the breadth of her work: “We tried to put together all of your greatest moments, but the truth is no one show can do them justice.” It’s true—since 2012, when she became the youngest correspondent in Daily Show history, Williams’ voice has become indispensable to The Daily Show, bringing us classic moments like her takedown of the Stand Your Ground defense or her smart, funny segment with Ronny Chieng on sexual racism.

The segment ended with all of the Daily Show correspondents, plus Noah, wrapping up a very teary Williams in a massive group hug.
