Anton Yelchin, the talented young actor known for playing Chekov in the new Star Trek movies and his starring roles in films including Like Crazy, Fright Night, and the recent indie hit Green Room, has died at 27.
According to TMZ, Yelchin was found pinned between his car and his mailbox early Sunday morning, after failing to show up at a rehearsal. TMZ notes that the car was in neutral and “the driveway was on a fairly steep incline,” though the exact circumstances of his death are not known at this time. (Authorities reportedly don’t suspect foul play.) Yelchin’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed Yelchin’s death, and added, “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”
Many fellow actors and former co-stars took to Twitter to remember the up-and-comer, who had starring roles in several movies scheduled to come out in the next two years. He had recently finished filming for Star Trek Beyond, which is due out next month.
