Netflix released an infomercial-style ad for Maria Bamford’s show Lady Dynamite Wednesday, and it’s great. Unlike certain other attempts to capture the video style of a past era, it plausibly looks like it was taped off the TV a few decades ago, and the tone is so dead-on it takes a few seconds to notice the content going off the rails, as it does in the list of the show’s selling points:
Lady Dynamite is smooth, spontaneous, sensual, scarves, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. … Think you’ve seen all Lady Dynamite has to offer? You’re so stupid!
The show, which Slate’s Willa Paskin called “part showbiz satire, part alt-comedy showcase, part plaintive character sketch, and all ambitious gonzo,” is on Netflix right now. We also encourage you to make a call to the number on the infomercial: 1-866-HEY-LADY. Operators are standing by.
